Still hanging out at Golden Living

Pop is still in the nursing home in Lansdale (Golden Living). He is there, not because his condition has deteriorated but rather because he needs IV antibiotics three times a day.

Since he’s close by to most of us, he gets a lot of visitors. His sisters and mama Catalina visit him pretty regularly too.

He gets to go to his apartment once in a while to freshen up (ya know- the three “s”: shit-shower-shave) in his own home.

He’s supposed to come home on Saturday, November 1st. He has an appointment with the doctor on Wednesday the 5th. Hopefully, all his blood counts will be ok and he’ll be back in his routine.

I’m not sure if they will resume chemotherapy right away or if he still wants to take “a break” and go to Florida. I’ll keep you all posted.

Pop still has his cell phone so you can still call him if you want.

Thanks to those who stay in touch with him. Special thanks to Sammy, Gringy, Jeanelle and Miriam for consistently keeping in touch with him.

Love- Ron

Change of location

Pop developed a staph infection at the site of his IV port (on his chest). Pop was admitted to Fox Chase last Wednesday and has been there since today.

Pop needs to be treated another 25 more days with IV antibiotics. Pop did not want to receive IV infusions at home (like we had done in the past). Therefore, Pop decided he would rather go to a facility to receive these antibiotic treatments.

Today, Pop was transferred to a nursing home in Lansdale. It’s called the Golden Living Center (formerly North Penn Convalescent Home). It’s located on 25 W. 5th Street (between Broad and Walnut Street). He is in room 116-B.

As you can imagine, nursing homes can be a very lonely and depressing place to be. I implore everyone to please make an effort to visit Pop when you get a chance. He can have visitors at anytime of the day. Pop can go for walks and even leave the facility as long as he’s with someone. You can take him out for lunch or drive him to his apartment to visit his birds…whatever. He just will benefit from getting away from the nursing home whenever possible.

Pop does not have a telephone in his room, but he has his cell phone with him.

It was hard to leave Pop this afternoon knowing that will be his home for the next 5 weeks. I know that’s what he wanted but it’s still difficult.

Thanks to everyone who still makes an effort to stay connect to our dad.

Back in the hospital today

I took Pop to his regular doctor appointment today. Pop had asked the doctor for a “break” from his chemo. The doctor granted Pop one month off. Pop had planned to take a trip to Florida.

However, Pop had a 102 temperature today. He had chills and the sweats all week. So, instead of taking a break from it all, Pop ended up being admitted to Fox Chase.

Yes, Pop is now in the hospital with a secondary infection. This of course puts Pop’s Florida trip on hold.

Pop was very discouraged but generally feels pretty well.
